Modern kung fu skills are the styles made in the 19th and 20 th centuries. There would not be any modern martial-arts without the traditional martial-arts which the majority of them originated from China. Western interests have indeed played a huge part in the development of the modern karate skills that in existance today. Principally thanks to increased trade betwen America, Europe, China, and Japan. The U. S.
Army played a giant role in bringing kung fu skills to the US after World War Two and the Korean War.
Examples of modern martial-arts are the varied styles of Karate and Kickboxing. One example is Shotokan Karate that was made from Ryukyu Kempo from the Ryukyu Islands which is now present-day Okinawa. Savate or French kickboxing is an example of modern self-defense skills. It was known as French footfighting. In a sense, it is like Muay Thai kickboxing but with added ballet. The most important contributory factor to modern martial humanities were army staff from the U.S. in Europe that spent time in China, Japan, and Korea. The infantrymen would learn assorted styles of Kung-Fu, Karate, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, and that kind of thing. Then they might come home and teach the styles to others.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was a result when Maeda an expert of Judo moved to Brazil. He taught the Gracie Family Judo.
